Hugh Jackman has his say on whether or not Wolverine would appear in Deadpool 2 – and whether he’d win in a fight between the two. Scroll down for all the details.
“A hundred percent.” His exact words.
Okay, perhaps not. Eddie the Eagle star Hugh Jackman’s confident testimony was caught at Sundance festival – where the X-Men star is promoting Dexter Fletcher’s new sports-comedy film – in response to the hot question of the day: could Wolverine take down this new iteration of Deadpool? Unsurprisingly, Jackman was certain about the outcome.
Fans will remember the best-forgotten X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where the titular character battled and defeated a butchered (in-universe and out) version of the much-loved mercenary.
Jackman – who is about to start filming Wolverine 3 – was famously clear that this would be his last outing as the clawed crusader. But when asked if he would consider one last bout in the inevitable Deadpool sequel, he had this to say:
I’ve never thought about it till now, but doing something with Ryan – he’s awesome – that’s always attractive to me.
This follows another one of Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds’ in-character video ramblings – one concerning Jackmans’ home nation of Australia, wherein he proudly denounced his former opponent.
“You gave us Wolverine. And for that, I can’t forgive you. I’ve got no problems with Hugh,” he claims in a hilariously-woeful Aussie dialect “I mean, he’s a delightful guy. A true legend – but that movie? That was a career-low for me.”
Of course, Hugh was very much amused by the whole thing:
Love it. It’s just brilliant. I mean, I love Ryan, he’s a good mate of mine. He’s so fantastic.
I think it’s fair to say that a rematch may be out of the question for now; at least, one involving THE Wolverine, so to speak. Of course, only time will tell how many Marvel favourites will be hounded, heckled and hunted down in future Deadpool films.
Deadpool hits UK theatres February 10th, while Eddie the Eagle drops on the 1st of April.
